The second industrial revolution

Article Abstract:

Technological and political breakthroughs have made a second industrial revolution a definite possibility. The technological revolution centered on the development of computers and telecommunications, while the political revolution encompassed all the governmental changes that have affected the world since the fall of the Berlin Wall. However, the fruits of these changes can only be attained through worldwide free trade. East Asia demonstrates the economic benefits of free trade, while the US and the Common Market show the harm wrought by short-sighted protectionism.
