Chemists' goods in Italy

Article Abstract:

Production of pharmaceuticals in Italy rose by around 6% in real terms in 1995 from 1994. Prices declined by more than 3%, mainly as a result of official price control. Overall consumption of pharmaceuticals declined by around 1% to 2%, while purchases in pharmacies rose by more than 3% in volume. Imports were up by almost 24% in value in 1995 from 1994, with a volume rise of more than 30%. Exports accounted for more than 43% of output.

Article Abstract:

The cleaning products market in Germany is not expected to grow until 1996 because many consumers have been turning to own-brand products. The cosmetics and toiletries market will remain stagnant with products with a single function being bought in preference to others. Pharmaceutical sales for 1995 are expected to rise by 4% in value because of increased export demand and the strength of the Deutschmark international exchange rate.

Article Abstract:

The Italian pharmaceuticals market remained unchanged in 1994 as the 1.5% increase in consumer spending was cancelled out by a corresponding fall in sales. The strength of the Italian lira has helped to promote international exports in pharmaceuticals, resulting in a 13% sales increase for 1994. Detergent sales have risen whilst scouring powders and ordinary soap sales have fallen.
