China embarks on diplomatic tour to improve its international image

Article Abstract:

The Chinese government is engaged in a top-level diplomatic initiative to improve its image not only with its Asian neighbors but with the US, Europe and Africa as well. Chinese officials concede that China's image has suffered because of issues such as its threat to invade Taiwan and its insistence on replacing Hong Kong's elected legislature with an appointed body. The diplomatic effort is aimed at reassuring the world community of China's friendly intentions.
