China prepares concession to textile trading partners

Article Abstract:

The textile industry of China is close to announcing a new allotment system for exports to the European Union. The Chinese international trade policy is linked to a recent Sino-European agreement and membership in the World Trade Organization that imposed an annual cap of seven and a half percent on the growth of Chinese textile exports. The new quota system on textile exports may also be adapted to the United States.

China to press more firms to unionize

Article Abstract:

Following the successful unionization of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. in China, the All-China Federation of Trade Unions is urging foreign companies to form unions. Poor working conditions and low salaries have caused unrest among China's migrant workers; unions are seen as a way to curtail this .

Ikea trims catalog size in China

Article Abstract:

Ikea is introducing a smaller catalog in China, and may phase out its larger catalog in other countries as well. In order to compete in the Chinese market, Ikea has cut prices in that country. Ikea has a 43% market share of China's home furnishings industry.
