Globalization blunts air trade rivalry

Article Abstract:

Though the world's only two manufacturers of jetliners, Boeing Co. and Airbus A.S.A., threaten to accuse each other of unfair trade advantages before the World Trade Organization, industry analysts agree that to do so would be mutually damaging for either of them. Globalization of both companies has brought each of them in contact with so many shared contractors and customers, that any attempt to bring a case against each other would negatively affect a network of which the accuser is as much a part as is the accused.

China to freeze aircraft orders in coming year to cool growth

Article Abstract:

The director-general of China's Civil Aviation Administration has announced that the Chinese government does not plan to approve purchases of airplanes by the country's airlines for 2005. Speaking at a conference in Beijing, Yang Yuanyuan said that the 147 planes already purchased by China's domestic airlines will be enough to meet the country's travel demands for the coming year. It is thought that the decision is part of a larger government effort to slow the growth of the burgeoning airline industry in China.
