China's steel threat may be excess, not shortage

Article Abstract:

After years as a significant importer of steel, China has become a net exporter. The change is due to an decrease of domestic demand for the metal combined with an increase in the country's production capacity. While China's appetite for steel imports once stressed the global market's ability to meet its demand, there is concern that the potential abundance of its exports could also threaten the stability of the industry by leading to an excess of supply internationally.
