Commitment remains high in Argentina

Article Abstract:

Argentina has finished most of its planned privatizations for telecommunications, oil and gas, and energy companies, as well as roads, railways and airports. Now the country is beginning its plans for post privatization investments. From 1990-1997 trade volume rose from US 16.43bn to US $56.569bn. Investments in the privatized companies are expected to continue to climb. Upcoming Oct. 1999 presidential elections could delay some of the privatization projects, but the political climate is expected to remain favorable for the businesses whether President Menem is reelected or not.

Tequila effect hits Argentina

Article Abstract:

Argentina will use money from privatisations to create a fiscal surplus, it has told the International Monetary Fund. It aims to raise $2.4 billion at least from privatisations in 1995. Part cash-payment from privatisations will generate at least $1 billion, while another $1.4 billion will be made by auctioning minority government stakes in privatised energy utilities.
