Communication without limits

Article Abstract:

Siemens Telekomunikace (ST) (Prague, Czech Republic), telecommunication equipment manufacturer, plans to invest 2 mil DEM per year in 1998-2000. The investment will be used mainly for the renovation of the firm's testing equipment and production technology. ST invested a total of 31 mil DEM in 1991-1997. The firm's turnover should amount to 180 mil DEM in 1998. About 30% of the sum should be represented by new products and 70% by the digital communication system EWSD. About 90% of the 1996 turnover was represented by EWSD and only 10% by new products. In the field of mobile networks, ST had supplied 344 base stations to Radiomobil (Czech Republic) and 2.4 mil EWSD ports to the telecommunication firm SPT Telecom by the end of 1997. ST started the production and supplies of EWSD in Prague-Hostivar in 1992. ST has 300 employees. ST, which is a part of the concern Siemens (Germany), closely co-operates with the cable manufacturer Kabelovna Decin (KD) (Czech Republic). Siemens holds a majority stake in KD.

Rybarstvi Trebon

Article Abstract:

Rybarstvi Trebon (RT) (Czech Republic), freshwater fish producer, has been licensed to export fish to the European Union. RT exports 70% of its live fish production. The company produces 2,700 t of live fish per year. The firm processes about 350 t of the quantity for fish products. RT invested 14 mil Kc in the reconstruction of its processing plant and new equipment in 1997. Currently, the firm's plant has a capacity of 400 t per year. RT utilises 80% of the capacity on average. The firm works ponds with an area of 7,445 ha. About 95% of the firm's annual production is represented by carps and 5% by other fish. The company also processes trouts imported from Italy and Slovakia.

Zinc marks

Article Abstract:

Vitkovice (Ostrava, Czech Republic), metallurgy and engineering firm, increased the capacity of its zinc plant in the second half of 1998. The company reconstructed the plant at a cost of about 45 mil Kc in January-August 1998. The plant's capacity tripled to 6,300 t per year after the reconstruction. The firm's productivity of labour increased and its work conditions improved due to the reconstruction. The plant is one of Europe's top zinc plants. Several western firms are the plant's consumers.
