Compact MIDS terminals delivered to European and US system integrators

Article Abstract:

IDISCO, a MIDSCO international joint venture firm, has started to deliver units of the Multifunctional Information Distribution System (MIDS) Low Volume Terminal (LVT) to systems integrators in the US and Europe. The joint venture has been tasked to conduct engineering and manufacturing development (EMD) of the MIDS LVT. LVT can interoperate with any other Link 16 (TADIL-J) terminal such as the Joint Tactical Information Distribution System (JTIDS) Class 1 and 2 units. Meanwhile, IDISCO is also building 108 EMD units for Germany, Italy, France, Spain and the US under a US Navy-given contract.

Article Abstract:

The Eagle armored reconnaissance vehicle made by MOWAG of Switzerland uses a HUMVEE chassis but features body armoring to protect occupants from small-arms fire and shell splinters. It is armed with a single 7.62mm machine gun with a day/night thermal imaging device mounted on the roof. Standard features include smoke grenade launchers; NBC protection system; run-flat tires and communications equipment. Optional features include air-conditioning; tire-pressure regulations system; and a self-recovery winch.
