Complements and Substitutes among Locations in the Two-Stage Transhipment Problem

Article Abstract:

Complement and substitution principles applicable to sitings in transhipment dual stage problems such as those encountered in factories and warehouses are developed. Direct examination of the basic property of this transportation problem suggests that two locations of a similar nature would be reasonable substitutes. Such elements may not apply to location pairs where there is one or more warehouses. Where no warehouse is present, complement and substitution principles are functional. Model illustrations of factory warehouses and demand center locations are highlighted.

Optimal Dispatching Strategy on an Airline Network after a Schedule Perturbation

Article Abstract:

Frequently, airlines must function without a total fleet of planes. A new approach to an ad hoc schedule for such situations is promulgated with minimum total passenger waiting as a strong consideration. A network is structured wherein nodes symbolize flights for a certain air network. Arcs are total time losses for single journeys. A solution is found using branch and bound algorithms. The efficiency of the modeling is tested by means of a numerical example. Tables of time after flight, and passenger data statistics are included.
