Concrete evidence

Article Abstract:

The New Horizons conference, held by the British Cement Association on Jan 23, 1992, featured contributions from Santiago Calatrava, Mike Glover and Tadao Ando. Calatrava emphasised that he takes his inspiration from nature, using moving forms, and looked at the contrast between the box girder and heavy engineering methods. Ando bases his work on the traditions of Japanese architecture, and aims to link ordinary materials with Japanese individuality. Glover called for a new look at materials, using them in innovative ways, and expressed his support for prestressed floor slabs.
