Congress raises new roadblock in Cnooc's path to Unocal deal

Article Abstract:

United States legislators have made additions to the United States energy policy that has dealt a blow to the China National Offshore Oil Corp.'s bid to acquire Unocal Corp. The new requirements would extend the review period of China's growing energy needs. Further legislation of a national-security review of a China National Offshore Oil Corp. acquisition is planned.

China's Zhongxin to buy oil field: deal for $250 million spurs a drive to tap Kazakhstan reserves

Article Abstract:

China's Zhongxin Resources Ltd. will buy the Mortuk oil field from Kazakhstan's KKM Operating Co. for $250 mil. The deal will add 35.2 bil barrels of recoverable oil reserves to production statistics for Zhongxin, a joint venture of Suntime International Economic Trading Group and Citic Guo'an Group.

Sinopec sets deal for Russian oil, aided by Rosneft

China Petrochemical Corp. is to purchase TNK-BP Holdings of Russia Udmurtneft unit and then turn over 51 percent to OAO Rosneft. Bids for the Udmurtneft company are approximately $4 billion.
