The market for consumer packaging in Eastern Europe has the potential for tremendous growth. The region is populated by 300 million consumers who are quite zealous to adopt the western habits of the West. The most developed and most mature consumer packaging market in Eastern Europe is in Hungary, which had the highest per capita sales between 1991 and 1995. The largest packaging sector in value terms is plastic packaging, which accounted for 37% of value sales in 1995. Forecast sales and regional outlook are discussed.

The Romanian market for consumer packaging

Article Abstract:

The report scrutinized the Romanian market for consumer packaging covering the years 1991-1995. Romanian consumers, which are beset daily with survival problems, do not give that much attention to environmental issues. In Romania where resources are scarce and raw materials re expensive, recycling is a necessity. Recycled materials are therefore used by most packaging manufactures, with the exception of the plastic sector, which is also the leading packaging sector.
