Business gifts: A form of non-verbal and symbolic communication

Article Abstract:

Gifts are often exchanged to nurture a business relationship and to add a human aspect to an otherwise impersonal setting, although in many cases the act of giving is undertaken in an unprofessional manner. Research into the gift culture of German organisations has been undertaken, and will be concluded at the end of 1996. Gift budgets approximate 2-4% of the annual advertising costs for a company, and often guidelines are provided to employees to show the company's expectations in this area.

Article Abstract:

Low earth orbit satellite (LEOS) based communication systems are expected to transform the global communication network and the services it provides. A main issue in developing such systems is economic viability, which is affected by satellite launch and replacement costs, gateways and operation costs, marketing, billing, accounting and management costs and financing charges.
