Article Abstract:

The US threatened to impose 100% tariffs on Chinese goods, if China does not take more aggressive action to stop the counterfeiting of US goods. The US claims that up to 75 million pirated compact discs are sold in China every year. Many of the counterfeit operations have ties to the government.

China is reaching out to Europe, and European investment, as a way of isolating the US diplomatically in retaliation for US support of Taiwan, for free trade, and human rights. European government should join the US effort, and eschew the opportunity to steal a few business deals from US firms.

Right to punish China: trade sanctions spell misery, but theft is theft

Article Abstract:

The US is threatening to impose 100% trade tariffs on China Feb 26, 1995, if China does not stop the sale of pirated copies of US manufactured software, videos and compact discs. The US is justified in imposing sanctions, but it is hard to predict how China will react to them.
