Court of appeal

Article Abstract:

UK architectural firm Eric Parry Architects was commissioned to re-design Pembroke College at Cambridge University, to provide extra student living accommodation and a Master's Lodge. Parry designed the new building to provide 92 quality student rooms, including bathrooms and communal space. The Master's Lodge provides private accommodation which can be easily accessed by students while remaining separate from the rest of the college. A light coloured stone has been used for the building facade, which blends the college into its surroundings.

Holy vessel

Article Abstract:

MacCormac Jamieson Prichard have designed a chapel for Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge, that fits beautifully into the other buildings and their landscaped gardens. The college buildings were designed by Denys Lasdun in the 1960s and the chapel had to be built onto the end of a wing of the Lasdun building. The chapel is built on two levels and is a symbolic interpretation of a ship. Religious symbolism is subtle but the whole has a reverential atmosphere. Building work is of a high standard with beautifully crafted woodwork.
