Credit Suisse plans to expand private banking world-wide

Switzerland's Credit Suisse Group announced intentions to expand the firm's private banking business globally, hiring approximately 1,000 new banking personnel during the next to years. The move focuses on improving money management for wealthy clients; Credit Suisse totaled some 600,000 wealth-management customers as of September 2007, with around $760 bil in assets under management.

HSBC plans joint venture in China's insurance sector

HSBC Holdings PLC of the United Kingdom is launching a drive for a joint venture in the insurance industry in China. The financial services company hopes to use the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement accord between China and Hong Kong signed in 2003 as a vehicle for the deal. HSBC Holdings PLC is planning on growing the insurance market in China.
