Cricket World Cup has TV-set makers placing a big bet on Indian market

Article Abstract:

Television manufacturers are employing various marketing techniques to get Indian consumers to buy their products. The marketing frenzy in cricket-crazed India is driven by the cricket World Cup which is slated to begin on May 14, 1999 and last through much of Jun 1999 in England. Samsung and Philips are offering chances to win cars, Aiwa offers cash, Sansui offers compact-disk players once India wins, LG Electronics offers a free trip to England while Thomson-CSF SA offers easy installment terms.

Thakrai Corp. of Singapore and LSI Logic Corp. of the US are involved in a joint-development venture for a new manufacturing kit for digital video disk players. The new manufacturing kit for digital video disk players will be specifically targeted towards markets in China. Thakrai and LSI Logic's planned digital video disk players manufacturing kit will be equipped with testing and debugging tools, software and hardware that are ready for production.

The information stored in the Pilot can also be stored in a desktop computer and the Pilot also has its own organizer program. The Pilot 5000 sells for a retail price of $299 in the US.
