Crunch time at EMI

Article Abstract:

The new EMI chairman, Eric Nicoli, has spent 19 years at United Biscuits, and has been a non-executive director at EMI for six years. Critics argue that EMI's board is responsible for some of its problems, and that Nicoli's qualifications for his new post are not evident. EMI has been affected by a delay in finding a new chairman, but the company's stock price dropped after the appointment was announced. The appointment raises questions about corporate governance at EMI.

The keys of the kingdom

Article Abstract:

Critics argue that some modern young classical piano players may possess technical virtuosity, yet lack emotional depth. A personal dimension may be lacking, despite the accomplishments of the pianists. A collaboration between recording companies, including Philips Classics has allowed the production of an edition of 100 volumes called 'Great Pianists of the 2th Century', which allows access to works of earlier and less well known performers such as Josef Lhevinne.
