Cultivating consistency in design

Article Abstract:

Architectural firm J&L Gibbons undertook community consultations before carrying out a design for an area of semi-wasteland at Edward Square, King's Cross, London, England. Local people put forward ideas including football and other play facilities and an orchard or garden. The design produced by J&L Gibbons offers a sunken lawn, bordered on two sides with stepped seating, along with a sloping lawn to the north. The area between the lawns is paved, with the paving extending to the peripheries of the square. Local consultation has also been a feature of the firm's work at William Tyndale Primary School in Islington, London, England.
