DAMASK brings materials gains to JDAM

Article Abstract:

The three-year Direct Attack Munitions Affordable Seeker (DAMASK) accuracy-enhancement kit will undergo a series of simulated, captive-carry and free-flight tests in 1999. The DAMASK program aims to develop a seeker that would provide the Joint Direct Attack Munition with an accuracy of 3m circular error probable, yet would not cost more thant $12,7000 in production. DAMASK integrates a nose-mounted sensor with an off-the-shelf signal processor installed in the existing JDAM tailkit.

Improved 120mm KEW round on offer to Egypt

Article Abstract:

Primex is scheduled to complete the delivery of a 10,800-round batch of KEW-A1 120 mm armor-piercing fin-stabilized discarding sabot rounds to the US Army Tankautomotive and Armaments Command by the end of 2000. The order was made by the US army on behalf of the Egyptian Army, for use with its M1A1 Abrams tank fleet. The ordered round, which is a variant of the Franco-German DM43A1, incorporates a tungsten nickel iron penetrator in an aluminum sabot.

TERM will provide battlespace domination for commanders

Article Abstract:

The US Army has announced that its Tank Extended Range Munition (TERM) program will enable their commanders to dominate their battlespace. TERM has been designed to attack out-of-line targets out to approximately 6km over flat terrains, extending to more than 8 km in indirect-fire mode. Three groups headed by Alliant Techsystems, Boing and Raytheon have launched the initial TERM design studies.
