DEA/AR profit ratios and sensitivity of 100 large U.S. banks

Article Abstract:

Important data envelopment analysis (DEA)/assurance region (AR) concepts are applied to banking. Included in the application are classification, sensitivity, profit ratios, linked cones (LC) and uniqueness. Large bank dynamics are observed to be explainable by profit ratios than by relative efficiency. Measures of DEA efficiency, AR efficiency and LC profit ratios of a bank panel of the US' 100 largest banks for the period 1986-1991 show high levels of inefficiency.

Data transformations in DEA cone ration envelopment approaches for monitoring bank performances

Article Abstract:

Cone ratio data envelopment analysis (DEA) models for monitoring and early warning systems for use by bank regulatory agencies are proposed. Examples are developed from data on 1984-1985 performances of the largest Texas banks. A simplified example based on extensions of DEA called Cone Ratio Envelopments is developed. Such an extension allows the adjustment of originally collected data while accounting for complex considerations.
