DENMARK: CARLSBERG TONES DOWN RUSSIAN PLANS

Danish brewery, Carslberg has denied that it has decided to invest DKR3bn (US$320mn) in the former Soviet Union. The investment details originated from Adam Tlekhurai who is vice chairman of Baltika breweries. Tlekhurai, speaking in the Russian newspaper St.Petersburg Times, named six new breweries. With current holdings and through Baltic Beverages Holding (BBH), Carlsberg has a market share of over 30% in Russia. According to Paul Bergqvist, who is Carslberg's MD, the company has the ambition to take a larger share of the Russian market. Bergqvist points out that both BBH the company's owners have the financial capacity to achieve this ambition. Baltika is the largest brewery in Russia. BBH owns 75% of Baltika and Carlsberg owns 50% of BBH.

DENMARK: CARLSBERG SIGNS DEAL WITH UNITED BREWERIES

Carlsberg and Indian United Breweries (UB) Group have signed a deal whereby UB will market Carlsberg's biggest brands in India as from the end of September, according to the Internet paper just-drinks.com.
