DENMARK: RESTRICTIONS ON FOOD ADDITIVES

The Danish Government insists on keeping restrictions on food additives. In a letter to the European Commission, the Government states that additives such as vitamins, minerals and other nutritive substances should not be allowed, unless it's necessary from a technological point of view and safe for consumers.

DENMARK: DANISCO TO BUY GERMANTOWN?

According to Australian Financial Review, Danisco Cultor is discussing the acquisition of Germantown, that produces food ingredients. Germantown is owned by Goodman Fielding of Australia and is valued at between DKr600-800mn (US$73-97mn). Carsten Siverten, deputy head at Danisco, declines to comment the rumours. Danisco Cultor is the leading producer in the world of emulsifiers to the food industry.

Danish Danisco, one of the leading producers in the world of food ingredients, has acquired Florida Flavours Inc. of the US, which is among the three leading producers in the world of fruit flavours to the juice industry. The acquisition will give Danisco access to important technology and it will help Danisco consolidate its position in the market for natural flavours. Florida Flavours had a turnover of DKr120mn in 2000 and a 45-strong work force. The purchase price was not mentioned in the article.
