DENMARK: DEBITEL'S FIRST-HALF 2001 RESULT

Article Abstract:

Debitel, the Danish mobile telephony company, boosted its turnover by 94% to DKr372mn in the first half of 2001 compared with the same period last year. The target for next year's turnover is DKr1bn. The company reported an operating loss of DKr1.5mn in first half 2001 vs. a loss of DKr29mn in first half 2000. Debitel's client base has doubled to 347,000. Debitel MD Per Nielsen says next year 90% of the clients will have to be attracted from other operators as the growth will be less than ten per cent. Debitel has no mobile telephony network of its own but buys capacity from TDC and Sonofon. John Strand of Strand Consult praises Debitel and the fact that it has won many new clients at a relatively low investment.
