DENMARK: ERICSSON TO EXPAND R&D DEPARTMENTS

Article Abstract:

The Swedish telecommunications company Ericsson is to increase staffing levels at its R&D departments in Copenhagen and Aalborg from 485 to nearly 700 employees. Danish engineers are considered being well educated in technologies which are important for the development of UMTS mobile telephony. The paper writes that Ericsson might sell-off its production of mobile terminals. In an interview with the paper, MD Kurt Hellstrom says he believes the company is able to solve the problems in this field and retain the production, but if not, the company has to "consider other alternatives".

Denmark:Siemens to sell service unit to Emts of Austria

Article Abstract:

Siemens Mobile Phones in Pandrup, Denmark, has decided to shelve its expansion plans, and will instead sell its service unit to Austrian Emts, the leading service company in Europe for mobile units. The parties decline to disclose the purchase price. Emts plans to start a chain of service stores in the ten biggest towns in Denmark. Emts guarantees that it can repair a mobile phone within a hour, but if this cannot be done the client will obtain a new phone, says Tommy Langhoff, head of Emts Danmark.

SWEDEN: MOBILE PHONES MAY CAUSE ALLERGIES

Article Abstract:

Allergic persons may break out in a rash and get palpitations when talking on a mobile phone, say Swedish scientists. According to them, the plastic casings of the phones contain phenol and cresol. Phones get warm when pressed against the skin and the substances are thus transported through the skin. The Swedish Asthma and Allergy Association says it has not received information about this.
