DENMARK: FIBERTEX MAKES NEW INVESTMENTS

Article Abstract:

Fibertex, the Danish company 50% owned by OK, aims to make new investments worth DKr400-500mn in southern Europe and Asia in order to become a global supplier of textile fibre to the hygiene paper industry. The company has already invested almost DKr600mn in its plant in Aalborg, Denmark. It supplies material to Procter & Gamble and SCA Molnlycke among other things. According to MD Knud Waede Hansen, the company's aim is to become a global producer to the hygiene paper industry. He says the company is expected to show a net profit of DKr40mn (US$4.8mn) in 2000 on a turnover of DKr515mn.

EDEKA-OMSATNING OGET MED 54 PCT

Article Abstract:

Edeka Denmark, the wholesale company, reports a 54% increase in turnover to DKr 2.44bn (USD 0.35bn) in 1997. This huge increase is attributed to new major customers such as the petrol chains Shell and Hydro Texaco. Net profit increased to DKr 7.4mn from DKr 6.3mn. Since the beginning of 1998, Edeka Denmark co-operates with two other wholesale companies, Centralk b and Superindk b, in Danmarks Gruppen (the Denmark Group). The aim is to develop a new, large wholesale group on the market for everyday commodities in Denmark.

DENMARK: EDEKA REMAINS AN INDEPENDENT PLAYER

Article Abstract:

Edeka, the German-Danish group, remains a forth, independent player on the Danish wholesale market. The new giant Super-Gros, which from the beginning of this year has reached a purchase volume of DKr 20bn (USD 3bn), will lose clients to Edeka, anticipates MD Preben Qvist-Sorensen. In 1999 alone, Edeka won 36 new clients. Besides competing about Super-Gros' clients, Edeka will also target the 6% of retailers who are not associated with any wholesaler.
