DENMARK: NEW TAX RULES TO FAVOUR CARLSBERG?

Article Abstract:

Carlsberg, the brewing company, is expected to benefit from the new tax regulations proposed by the Competition Authority. The Authority wants to cut beer taxes in order to diminish border trade in beer between Denmark and Germany. This would result in Carlsberg selling more of its production in the Danish market and thus boosting its current 70% market share further. This, in turn, would be harmful for Carlsberg's rival Faxe whose Ceres Royal strong beer is selling well in border stores. Carlsberg declines to comment the Competition Authority's report at this stage. The report is to be published next week.

Denmark: Carlsberg disagrees with Competition Authority

Article Abstract:

The Danish Competition Authority has urged Carlsberg, the Danish-Norwegian brewing group, to change its deals that regulate the sale of bottled beer and draught beer to wholesalers in Denmark on the grounds that Carlsberg has a dominant position in the Danish beer market. Carlsberg is to submit a complaint against the Authority's request with the Competition Appeals Tribunal.

DENMARK: CARLSBERG CLEARED BY AUTHORITIES

Article Abstract:

Carlsberg has been cleared by the Danish competition authority in a case where the Vestfyen brewery accused Carlsberg of dumping. Vestfyen claimed that Carlsberg sold low-price beer in order to force competitors off the market. The authorities found no signs of Carlsberg using its dominant position on the market or that it had been selling beer at unreasonably low prices.
