DENMARK: SKANDIABANKEN FASTEST GROWING INTERNET BANK

Article Abstract:

Skandiabanken is Denmark's fastest growing Internet bank with 10,000 new customers in only 10 weeks. However, the interest rate of 4.35 per cent on Skandiabanken's all-in-one account is so close to market interest that the bank is not yet making any money. Chief executive Henrik Vad says that he is surprised that so many new customers have joined the bank so soon and that the bank will not be ready to take over loans and securities until autumn. Earnings will come from these additional products. The full organisation should be in place by August. The number of employees will then have doubled. Basisbank is ready to launch an advertisement campaign as a result of a drop in the number of new customers. Denmark's third largest Internet bank, SEB, is keeping a low profile while awaiting the approval of its merger plans with Foreningssparbanken.
