DENMARK: TDC TO BOOST CLIENT NUMBERS

Article Abstract:

TDC, the Danish telecommunications company, is again boosting its client numbers following a steady decline over the past year. TDC has managed to raise its market share from 60% in 2000 to 63% today. Its market share of mobile telephony clients has edged up to 45% from 44% in 2000. According to Kenneth Graversen, chief analyst at Enskilda Securities, TDC's sales figures have been boosted by Telia's and Orange's new strategy to attract clients with the biggest volumes. Orange has managed to boost client numbers by almost 9% in the first six months of the year. Orange press co-ordinator Hanna Damgaards says its share of the mobile telephony market is currently 16%. Telia and Tele 2 decline to present their latest client statistics saying that they will be published later on in conjunction with the presentation of their interim results. Small companies without a telecoms licence of their own, such as CyberCity, Tele1 and Tiscali seem to be the losers in the Danish telecoms race. Their combined market share of the fixed telephony market is only a couple of per cent.

DENMARK:TELIA PERFORMS POORLY IN DENMARK

Article Abstract:

Swedish telecoms company Telia's performance in Denmark is poor even though the company reported a better-than-expected result for its Swedish operations in 2000. Even though Telia's mobile telephony client numbers in Denmark rose 75% to 297,000 its rival Mobilix's client base is almost twice as big. Telia's earnings from mobile clients rose by a mere 26%. Telia's fixed network client numbers in Denmark total 232,000 and Internet client numbers stand at 108,000. Telia's turnover in Denmark accounts for less than 10% of Telia's group turnover of DKr54.1bn (US$6.6bn). The paper describes the year 2000 as the annus horribilis for Telia's Danish operations.
