Decline of the dailies

Article Abstract:

The main reason why newspapers continue to lose circulation and readership is they have lose authority with readers, a situation that must be corrected quickly. Ways of improving newspapers can be gained from studying recent important studies into the industry or by listening to readers of Canadian newspapers. Advertising would play a bigger role in the revenue streams of newspapers but higher stability would come from greater subscriber loyalty and better price tolerance.

Laing will be responsible for TDNG's national, financial, technology and Internet advertising Sales. On the other hand, Spencer is tasked to continue developing newspaper, 'Toronto Star's,' national, travel and Internet advertising sales. He will also ne responsible for the retail multi-market and 'Starweek' magazine.

Quebecor Inc's market share is projected to double with the integration of Sun Media into its business, which has evolved into a national chain of tabloids with presence in Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City and Sherbrooke. The newspaper is also confident of dramatically increasing its ad revenue even as it competes with Hollinger and Torstar.
