Delhaize looks to future with new Brussels store

Article Abstract:

Delhaize "Le Lion" SA, a retailer based in Belgium, will open a state-of-the-art supermarket in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert near Brussels, Belgium. The third millenium type of supermarket will offer a wider selection of imports while customers may compare prices with a hand-held scanner enjoying coffee at a new espresso bar. Delhaize's recent closure of a site nearby leaves the total number of Delhaize markets in Brussels at 32 with roughly 1,800 outlets worldwide. Although construction costs of the new store was roughly 30% higher than normal, it is expected to pay off despite offering the same prices as any other Delhaize outlet, said executive director of the supermarket's division Claude Allard.
