Denmark: Danish Crown to concentrate operations

Article Abstract:

Danish Crown, the Danish meat producer is to concentrate three existing companies on the UK market into a powerful unit with a turnover of DKr3.5bn (US$421mn) and a 2,000-strong workforce. This unit will get a dominant position in the UK, which is one of the most important markets for Danish Crown. In continental Europe Danish Crown will concentrate its operations in Tulip International and Danish Prime in a gigantic unit with total sales of DKr5bn and a 2,500-strong workforce. These measures will make it easier for Danish Crown to make use of the prospects in the market for processed meat products, according to chairman of the board Niels Mikkelsen. It also adds dynamics to the company.

DKr 700mn is attributed to the parent company, and DKr 600mn to processing industries in the group. The group's net result is DKr 909mn. During the year, Danish Crown accounted for 78.5% of pig slaughters and 62.5% of cattle slaughters in Denmark. Compared with the previous year, this is a slight decline, owing to the fact that some suppliers chose alternative slaughter-houses.
