Peugeot is willing to develop the position of its football team, FC Sochaux, keep active in supertourist car races in Germany and the UK, and reach major objectives in rallies and F1 races. On the other hand, the French carmaker is softing pedal on golf sponsorship. Peugeot keeps sponsoring the Peugeot Challenge World Tour competition for amateurs, but the carmaker will not renew its support (less than FFr 10mn excluding the communication costs) to the Open de France competition in 1999.

According to INAMI, the medical care insurance company, medical care expenditure is expected to come to BFr 461bn in 1998, compared with an initial budgetary objective of BFr 453bn for the full year of 1998 INAMI has assessed medical expenditures for 1999 at BFr 476.9bn; nevertheless they may come to more than BFr 488bn. INAMI's medical care insurance is expected to present a budgetary objective proposal for 1999 on Monday 21 September 1998.
