Desynchronised

Article Abstract:

Research on traffic management at Stuttgart University, Germany, has shown that slip roads are important in maintaining traffic flow, and tend to be too short. Temporary delays in traffic in slip roads may make road travel faster for all drivers. Capacity of intersections can be reduced when cars have to brake. The researchers, Martin Treiber and Dirk Helbing, studied a part of a German motorway between Bad Homburg and Frankfurt to assess factors affecting traffic flows.
