Determination of optimal path under approach and exit constraints

Article Abstract:

A solution was obtained for the symmetric, asymmetric and mixed symmetric asymmetric traveling salesman problems. The solution lessens the machine tool resident time and the power consumption by allowing optimization of non-productive movement. Assessment of the solution obtained reveals that it can be utilized to a number of other areas such as pick and place technology, quality control machines and multi axes production machinery.

4-block heuristic for the rectangle packing problem

Article Abstract:

Heuristics were created to address a problem related to calculation of optimal packing patterns of small rectangles on a pallet. The heuristics, which are based on the 4-block structure of packing patterns, takes into consideration restrictions associated with the problem. Such heuristics entail the use of recurrence formulas that are used in the calculation of the optimal 4-block-patterns.

Combined signal setting design and traffic assignment problem

Article Abstract:

A comprehensive discussion about the global signal settings problem, subject to the user equilibrium constraint for traffic flows, is provided. Issues concerning multiplicity of solutions, algorithm convergence and sensitivity to demand patterns are discussed.
