Diageo earnings rise 21%, buoyed by North America

Diageo PLC of the United Kingdom posted a 21 percent net profit surge to 1.17 billion Pounds ($2.04 billion) for the first half of this year. Sales are up 8.4 percent to 5.36 billion Pounds largely due to increased sales in North America. Diageo PLC is the world's largest alcoholic beverage maker.

Goldman resigns as Diageo's corporate broker

Article Abstract:

Goldman Sachs Group Inc. was named as banking advisor to Diageo PLC, the alcoholic beverage giant, only to have to resign the retainer due to a conflict of interest. Goldman Sachs Group Inc. was already the advisor to the rival wine and spirits group, Allied Domecq PLC.
