Discussion in depth about the North Greenwich station

Article Abstract:

Robert Benaim and Associates Engineer Robert Benaim points out on the North Greenwich station project his firm had to make four bids for the work which was planned to last for four years. He agrees a design and build project would have not led to such a high standard of architecture. The North Greenwich station is on the Jubilee Line Extension, London, England. The designers of the building were Alsop and Stormer. Project Architect Will Alsop suggests the services on the project were of a lessor quality compared to the rest of the work. He found working with Benaim very productive.

Light at the end of the tunnel

Article Abstract:

Plans and models of the proposed new stations for London, England's Jubilee Line Extension of the underground railway network demonstrate a new design principle. Natural light will be used in subterranian structures and should make the stations easier to negotiate and more inspiring environments than traditional tube stations. Recognised architects have been used for each station but the briefs appear to have been limited to the Jubilee Line and do not consider links to the rest of the transport system.

The concrete challenge of Canada Water

Article Abstract:

Canada Water Station is one of six new stations for the Jubilee Line Extension which will expand the London Underground network. It is divided by two underground lines and major excavations had to be made through the Thames gravel, the Woolwich and Reading Beds and the Thanet Sands. Concrete used for the external retaining walls, the base slab and any other parts in contact with the ground, had to meet durability standards.
