Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. of the United States has posted its fifth consecutive quarter of increasing net income led by effective marketing that has seen the company generate more revenue by selling higher priced tires. The tire giant is planning an eight percent increase in tire prices in September 2005.

Global demand frames building-material deals

Heidelberg-Cement AG has announced it will buy U.K.-based building materials firm Hanson PLC in a deal totaling $15.8 bil, creating the world's fourth largest cement maker. Other recent bids include Mexico's Cemex S.A.'s $14.25 bil offer for Australia's Rinker Group Ltd.
