Double-dipping at Tyntesfield leaves us paying over the odds

Article Abstract:

The 'Save Tyntesfield' campaign was able to raise 1.5 million dollars from the public at large in the form of small donations and another 5 million pounds in the form of anonymous gifts. The National Trust is planning to request another 20 million pounds from the Heritage Lottery Fund for the purpose of saving the 1,870-acre Tyntesfield estate from being broken up.

Yesterday's 'national treasures' are costing 21st century dear

The heritage concept of the 'rescued' country house at Tyntesfield is facing the same escalating cost barrier as the rest of the housing market. Out of the estimated 24 million pounds that the National Trust had to pay to the surviving relatives of the last owner, Lord Wraxall, 1.5 million pounds came from other sources.
