Union Carbide's net falls 53%

Article Abstract:

Union Carbide Corp. posted a decline of 53% in its earnings for the second-quarter of 1999. The company posted the decline despite the fact that it saw a $9 million (8.6 million euros) after-tax payment from a legal settlement. The financial boost could not offset Union Carbide's weak prices and increasing costs for feedstock. The company posted $56 million in net income for the period.

Lyondell issues warning on earnings

Article Abstract:

Lyondell Chemical Co. cautioned that its profits are being hit harder than it previously expected as a result of increasing oil prices. Analysts now believe that their earnings estimates for the company's 1999 third-quarter are too high. The hope for an improved second-half of 1999 for Lyondell was destroyed after the company gave its earnings warning.
