Drain brain

Article Abstract:

Services engineer, Paul McKenna believes the design of plumbing and drainage systems is becomming more important and interesting because of the privatisation of water supply and the growing awareness of the cost of water. As well as changes to the law, plumbing has to take account of the general decrease in mains water pressure due to privatization. Internal plumbing projects are influenced by energy conservation and health issues. McKenna's current drainage projects include work on sports stadia and a modern library in Alexandria, Egypt.

Peopling the ark

Article Abstract:

Seagrams' move to The Ark in Hammersmith, West London, England has brought together 400 employees into a unique and challenging building. The architects sought the opinions of staff as well as management to help redesign the interior of the unusual building. The change of location has been very successful allowing for greater staff cohesion and communication. The possibility of noise travelling between the open offices has not been the problem that was initially anticipated.
