Drunk on lemonade: Australian brews up a best seller

Article Abstract:

Two Dogs International Holdings of Australia, is one of the country's fastest growing alcoholic beverage producers. Its annual turnover has grown to 50 million Australian dollars in just over three years and its Alcoholic Lemonade is one of the most popular drinks amongs young, trendy Australians. Groupe Pernod Ricard recently announced it would purchase Two Dogs, retaining Duncan MacGillivray as managing director. MacGillivray believes that the key to business success is having an idea and staying with it. He has formed partnerships with other breweries and distributors, holding on to quality control rights.

There has been a sharp rise in demand for the services of fortune tellers in Hong Kong. The economic crisis in Asia has made the future more uncertain for many people in Hong Kong, and there is also a widespread expectation that the Year of the Tiger will not be auspicious. Hong Kong people are extremely superstitious, and are happy to pay to gain an insight into what may happen in the future. It is thought that there are thousands of fortune tellers in Hong Kong, many of whom have put their prices up as demand for their services has risen.

Getting tough

Article Abstract:

National Australia Bank saw net profit of more than A$2 billion for the first time in 1996, and recorded its fourth successive year of rising earnings. Its performance has been assisted by new technology and innovative products, and has also managed to boost income through diversification. Operations abroad now account for more than one-third of its profits, and almost two-thirds of its assets are offshore. Performances of other Australian companies are also discussed.
