Putting your funds in funds

Article Abstract:

Investors planning to invest in Switzerland should consider putting their assets into mutual funds. The Swiss National Bank estimates that there are at least 1,500 mutual funds distributed in the country while other sources say that total fund portfolios have risen to about 250,000 million Swiss francs. Demand for mutual funds is also strong, booking 13.740 million during the first six months of 1997. Investors can choose from a variety of funds such as share and bond funds, property funds and money market funds.

In the doldrums

Article Abstract:

Switzerland is suffering from a prolonged economic recession. Economists expect GDP to fall in real terms by 0.3% to 0.6% in 1996. However, while domestic demand is likely to remain weak in 1997, a modest economic recovery is predicted as a result of improving economic conditions in Europe and the increasing price competitiveness of the Swiss manufacturing sector. Analysts expect more significant economic improvement in 1998.

Up, down and stable

Article Abstract:

Switzerland's economy is expected to retain its sluggish character by the end of 1997, which has been the trend since 1990. The growth rate is projected to only reach from as little as 0.5-0.8%. Despite this generally drab scenario, optimism abounds in the chemical industry where higher sales and profits are expected in all product categories. The banking and insurance sectors also show bright potential for growth.
