Going for gold

Article Abstract:

The 2000 Olympics are to be held in Sydney, Australia. They are forecast to boost gross domestic product (GDP) by $5.8 billion, attract an additional 1.3 million tourists from abroad, and create 150,000 additional jobs. They will affect a range of sectors such as construction, hotels, manufacturing and finance. Television rights, licensing fees and ticket sales will also bring in revenue for the Olympic organizing committee. Traffic congestion could be a problem, more cautious commentators warn.

And share alike

Article Abstract:

Insurers in Australia are rapidly demutualizing, exchanging memberships for equity and using the capital to modernise technology and develop new products. Insurers need to compete with banks and other institutions which are offering their own insurance products. This means big share offerings for investors, and National Mutual, the second largest life insurer, has recently listed on the Australian Stock Exchange. Australian Mutual Provident Society is also expected to demutualize.
