EH looks into preserving buildings on computer

Article Abstract:

English Heritage has called on architects to record their buildings fully, in response to the Department of National Heritage's consultation document on listing. The governemnt has cut English Heritage's budget and feels that it will be forced to allow the demolition of some listed buildings due to lack of money. It feels that emerging technologies could be used including enshrining buildings in virtual reality.

Government's VAT 'fudge' angers the heritage lobby

Article Abstract:

The National Trust criticizes the Department of Culture, Media and Sport's heritage policy statement, claiming it does not address the VAT problems for history property repairs. The document includes commitments to: historic environment funding; keeping an effective framework of statutory protection for a historic environment; and finishing plans for the 11 World Heritage sites of England.

Article Abstract:

The restoration of a 400-year-old gatehouse at Lower Brockhampton is described. Located over a moat, the gatehouse is distorted and droops. Hydraulic car-jacks were used as supports during the restoration.
