ERL PROPOSES CONTAINER SCANNING SYSTEMS FOR PORTS

Article Abstract:

ECIL-Rapiscan Ltd, a manufacturer of X-ray baggage inspection systems, has submitted a proposal to the Union ministry for surface transport for setting up container scanning systems at major ports and container terminals in India. The cost of each system is estimated at over Rs30 crore, with import content accounting for 40 percent of total cost. ERL, a joint venture between Electronics Corporation of India Ltd and Rapiscan of the US, has already installed over 250 baggage inspection systems at airports and various departments of customs, excise, defence and airline companies. THE MONITOR MARKET

Article Abstract:

The domestic monitor market is expected to increase to 820,000 units in 1998. The 14 inch monitors will account for about 82 percent of this market. BPL, which has ISO 9002 certification, currently exports 25,000 monitors every month. The company projects that it will capture 20 percent of the monitor market by 2000 AD. India is expected to switch to 15 inch non-interlaced and digital monitors in the coming years. (khr)

The flagship whisky brand of BDA Ltd, Officer's Choice has cornered a 12 percent market share in the regular whisky segment in the domestic market. The brand recorded increased sales in eastern India and Maharashtra. It has targeted sale of three million cases for 1998-99. BDA has set up 14 manufacturing units. The brands' success is attributed to strict quality control measures and new style of packaging. (nr)
