South India Corporation (Agencies) Ltd, a part of the MA Chidambaram group, has more than doubled its net profit to Rs19.37 crore in the first half of 1998-99 against Rs9.70 crore in the first half of 1997-98. Its turnover has increased by over 150 percent to Rs685.22 crore against Rs249.5 crore while gross profit grew to Rs24.21 crore from Rs14.29 crore. Its interest charges have increased to Rs24.65 crore from Rs10.99 crore while depreciation was Rs4.84 crore against Rs4.59 crore. (khr)

SOUTHERN STRUCTURALS ON THE REBOUND, PLANS DIVERSIFICATION

Article Abstract:

Southern Structurals, which had been referred to the Board for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction in 1991, has posted an operating profit of Rs45 lakh in 1997-98. The company, which manufactures railway wagons and steel structurals, has decided to diversify into manufacturing conveyor idlers and automatic metal handling systems. It is also planning to tie up with Vitkovice Prodico of the Czech Republic for open-cast mining equipment. (khr)
