EU Commission tries to draw a road map for digital TV; Microsoft's investment in Telewest raises competition concerns

Article Abstract:

The article is about the European Commission's (EU's) attempts to determine the importance of high-speed phone lines versus broadband cable lines for delivering interactive television. The purpose of this is to assess the possible anticompetitive repercussions of Microsoft Corp.'s intended investment in U.K. cable company Telewest Communications PLC. Microsoft would take joint control with AT and T Corp.'s Liberty Media Group, of the UK company in a transaction worth $3 billion (Euro3.15 billion).
