EU-Swiss tax conflict may lead to trade dispute

Article Abstract:

The European Union and the Swiss government are in disagreement over Switzerland's tax laws. Currently, company profits made outside the country can be fully or partially tax exempt in certain regions, which EU officials believe amounts to unfair competition and hence a violation of the free trade agreement between Switzerland and the European Union. Swiss officials argue that the lower taxes are a competitive advantage but do not constitute unfair competition.
